Thank God for Daughters and Toads

An odd word pairing for sure. More so because it is true.

I remember the day well, I placed you on the grass for the first time. It was a bright sunny day. The wonderment your body showed as it tried to process the grass brushing against your legs and feet. While watching in awe, something else caught my eye... a toad. Small but safe it was hopping away as they do. Its shape and nature did not help this process. Different shades of dark colors and numerous sizes. Lets not forget about the glorious bumps all over them, they are always kind and never hurtful. You see, I forgot about them as I grew further from the grass. Seeing them gave me fond memories of my time closer to the ground. I had lost sight of the small creatures.

As I got taller so did life. Because of you I have never lost sight of the good things in life and the diminutive toad. You are both a reminder of what is kind and gentle. Now you too have grown away from the ground. As your days get longer and the years get shorter, periodically look down. And there you may see a toad and a reminder of an old man.
